Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and other marginalized classes of people in the online world. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to start an internet-based program that would examine the role of gender in games and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. Her determination was not slowed by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become an expert on media and feminism. She has won several awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women within the popular culture stories.
